Over 2 years ago I did a little “INTRO” post about a new Vietnamese American singer/dancer called Yenn. Basically M-I-A since the release of her single “So Good To Be Wrong” back in 2009, I’m happy to announce that she’s back and ready to finally unleash a HOT new single, FIERCE new remixes and yeah…that long promised debut album. Let me RE-INTRODUCE you to Yenn.
Performing since the age of 13, Yenn has toured much of the world, including North America, Australia, Russia, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic – to name a few. Yenn began her career performing traditional Vietnamese music, appearing in a series of musical DVDs showcasing both her singing and dancing talents. In addition to the DVDs, Yenn released ten albums in her native tongue and soon gained a following throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. Eventually gravitating away from her traditional roots, Yenn dove head first into modern pop, recording a HOT club single, “So Good To Be Wrong” which peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart with remixes from Karmatronic, DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious. I’d call that a hit and I’d call those some HITmakers on the club scene. So what’s with the time lapse? Well, from the sound of it, Yenn has been working hard at creating another hit – an album FULL of hits, for that matter.
Currently in the studio, polishing up her debut album, Yenn collaborated with producers and songwriters including Alex Cantrall (Jamelia, Vanessa Hudgens), Chris Rojas (Jessica Simpson, Anastacia), Jordan Omley (Jada, Brandy) and Derek Bramble (David Bowie). As far as the sound of the album? Here’s what Yenn has to say:
“My sound is influenced by a vast variety of musical cultures….This album is about love, all different sides of it. Emotional, mental and sexual. It’s living the moment and living it big. It’s about being stripped down, bear, vulnerable and owning that side of yourself. Provocative should make you proud.”
Well said. I’m BEYOND thrilled that Yenn is back and ready to make a splash. It’s about damn time! A Top 25 Billboard Hit should have warranted at least one follow up single. Well, here we finally have one. Better late than never! “Pretty Ugly” is the lead single taken from Yenn’s upcoming debut and it’s a HOT one. Featuring remixes from Jump Smokers and Ralphi Rosario, Yenn recently went back to the studio to put some finishing touches on the single in advance of it’s official release in the next few weeks. Later this month, Yenn heads to San Francisco to start promoting the single and album, making appearances at radio stations and clubs around the area, hobnobbing with DJs and the like. Confirmed radio dates include Friday, May 13th on KYLD (WILD 949) and Saturday, May 14th on KSXY Santa Rosa. Get ready for a major comeback from this talented and beautiful pop artist! Look out for Yenn‘s debut album sometime this Fall.
