[Review] Wolfette – Risk For You

    Wolfette Risk For You
There’s no doubt about it, UK singer/songwriter Wolfette keeps getting better with each song she releases.  Her latest hit, called “Risk For You,” is due out May 28th and very well might be her best yet.  It’s probably not a coincidence that my favorite Wolfette track is also her most commercial-sounding single.  This is not to say Wolfette is selling out, on the contrary, she’s showing her versatility as an artist.  With it’s driving beats and haunting vocals, “Risk For You” could easily find a place in a car advert or perhaps in a TV show  While past singles, “Different Story” and “Trophy Girl” both include heavy dance and electronica elements, they are both considerably more ROCK than the more club friendly “Risk For You,” and for me, that’s a good thing.

Wolfette‘s brand of edgy electro is just what the crowded pop landscape needs right now.  Wolfette‘s vocal style lends itself perfectly to the electropop-rock genre, sounding at times like some of her contemporaries, specifically Shirley Manson (Garbage), Ladyhawke, Florrie and Sneaker PimpsKelli Dayton.  On “Risk For You“, Wolfette channels Texas front woman Sharleen Spliteri, in a perfect display of both strength and vulnerability. Now, with four solid singles under her belt not, I think it’s time Wolfette released an album. I can’t wait to see what she does next! “Risk For You” is out May 28th.
