The Noisettes Tease Upcoming Third Album, New Single, ‘Winner’ Released July 9th

This is the moment I’ve (and hopefully you’ve) been waiting for!  English indie rock darlings, the Noisettes have a new single coming out this summer!  It’s been nearly three years since we’ve heard a peep of new music from the talented London-based threesome, consisting of the ever ravishing singer/bassist Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison, and I don’t know about you but my mouth has been salivating with anticipation!  Well, it’s safe to say that the wait is finally ALMOST over.  Due July 9th, the aptly titled “Winner,” offers music lovers a small sampling of what’s to come off of the band’s upcoming third album, and boy are we in for a treat.  Two weeks ago, the band uploaded a 1:29 clip of the new single onto their SoundCloud page, so feast your ears folks…

The Noisettes aren’t playing around people!  They KNOW we’ve missed them and they aren’t wasting any time.  “Winner” is a rousing, uptempo club rock ANTHEM worthy of their one and only Top 5 UK hit (and one of my favorites) “Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go).”  “The eagle has landed, the butterfly is out of her cocoon.  It ain’t like I planned it, but lately I’m shinin’ like the moon,” Shingai sings with a cool confidence.  The song’s chorus is a jump up and down, anthemic electro rock chorus, that you can just picture a crowd responding to.  “I feel like a winner, I feel like the world is in my hands, I feel like a winner. I’ve got the world at feet, I can dance to the beat of my song.” Yes! YES! Sing it girl.   This song is going to be MASSIVE. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing!

Now I’ve been a fan of the Noisettes since the release of their 2009 sophomore album, Wild Young Hearts.  It was after falling in love with that album that I went back and bought their equally fantastic (but very different) debut album, What’s The Time Mr. Wolf?, an album that went on to spawn five singles, and took them on tour for over a year where they shared arena stages with the likes of Muse, TV on the Radio and Bloc Party.  I can’t believe that it’s been almost three years since I saw the band play in Boston.  Time really does fly, doesn’t it?  On the day of the show, of course, I had no idea the Noisettes were even in town so OBVIOUSLY I flipped my shit when I found out!

After scouring the office all day for a date, trying not to come across as desperate, I finally caved and bought a solo ticket. Best decision of my life.  The band was playing a SUPER INTIMATE gig at a great little dive in Allston called Great Scott.  Picture this: Warped wooden floors, the fragrance of cheap beer wafting all around you, sweat drenched hipsters everywhere in sight, oh and cheap bottles of Miller High Life.  What more could you possibly want on a Tuesday night?  The Noisettes played a great set and my God, Shingai was MESMERIZING.  At one point, she stood up on one of the wobbly little bar tables, belted out the final notes of their song “Atticus,” ending with a somersault. Brilliant! Honestly, one of the best live concert experiences I’ve ever had and probably ever will have again.
Winner” is the lead single from the Noisette‘s upcoming, as-yet-untitled third album, and while it does share certain similarities with past hits of theirs, it’s not a clone by any stretch of the imagination.  If you’re even remotely familiar with the Noisettes, then you know that those guys don’t release the same shit twice. Oh no!  If you listen to their first two albums, there’s a clear musical evolution happening there.  Singer Shingai explains the band’s dislike for anything formulaic or expected, saying,

“Some bands stick with the same style forever. They get together because they share identical musical tastes, then never do anything different. We’re a gang, but we’re also two divas with different record collections who constantly introduce each other to new sounds, whether it’s African music, jazz, our own modern hybrid of soul music or new adventures in dance music, there always remains the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll without the cliché’s. For us, making music means keeping our ears open.”

If what were hearing on “Winner” is any indication of what’s to come, I think we should all start preparing for something pretty spectacular.  At this point, we don’t know much about the new album, other than the fact that the Noisettes did co-write the lead single with Will.i.am‘s songwriter, Jean-Baptiste, the mega producer behind hits like “Rock That Body,” and “Meet Me Halfway,” from the Black Eyed Peas, “Acapella,” and “4th of July (Fireworks)” from Kelis, “Army of Love” by Estonian club queen Kerli, “Beautiful People” from Chris Brown and several tracks off of Madonna‘s latest album.  I haven’t heard more than 1:29 of “Winner,” but the new Noisettes album is already one of my most anticipated of 2012.

Winner” will be released July 9th (iTunes UK), so get excited.  In the meantime, download the band’s back catalog on iTunes US or iTunes UK.  I’ve also taken the liberty of including a couple of my favorite videos BELOW for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy and get excited for new Noisettes!
