[Hot Video Alert] Joss Stone – The High Road

    Joss Stone
The High Road” is the second single lifted off of UK soul singer Joss Stone‘s sixth studio album, The Soul Sessions Vol. 2, released July 16th via Stone’d/S-Curve Records.  If “The High Road” sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s a cover.  The original was written by James Mercer & Danger Mouse (AKA Broken Bells), off their eponymous 2010 debut.  Stone’s rendition is a more soulful (OBVIOUSLY) take on the original – the 25 year olds bluesy rasp attacking every note in the brilliantly written track – bringing an entirely fresh perspective to one of my favs off the Broken Bells‘ album. Make sure you check out the stunning Brian Savelson-directed video for “The High Road,” featuring Stone exiting a subway station, landing in an ethereal dreamworld that’s part Jumanji, part Avatar with a little bit of Salvador Dali surrealism thrown in for good measure.

Recorded over two live sessions in New York City and Nashville, The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 is a revisiting of Stone’s debut 2003 album, The Soul Sessions.  The follow up to 2011’s LP1, The Soul Sessions Vol. 2  debuted at #6 on the UK Albums Chart, Stone’s highest charting album since 2004’s Mind Body & Soul (#1).  The album also had a decent showing on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Stone’s fourth top 10 hit.  “The High Road” serves as the second official single off the album, following “While You’re Out Looking For Sugar,” and preceding the album’s third single, “Pillow Talk.”  To date, none of the album’s singles have charted.
