[Hot Video Alert] Sandi Thom – Flesh and Blood

    Sandi Thom | Flesh and Blood
    Earlier this month, Scottish singer/songwriter Sandi Thom quietly released the third single and title track off her fourth studio album, Flesh and Blood.  To accompany the stunning song, Thom released a controversial music video, which opens with a clip of Martin Luther King Jr.‘s well known “I have a dream” speech.  According to Thom, “The human race is hanging on by a thread and we have to do everything we can to unite and save it. I have a voice and I feel like I should use it.”  Sandi hopes that the video, chock-full of prolific images from the past, will help to communicate a message of hope and unity in these dark and troubled times.  Here here, sister!

    Flesh and Blood was entirely produced by Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes and recorded at 16 Tons Studio in Nashville.  The album was released on September 17th on Sandi’s own indie label, Guardian Angels Records, which the now 31 year old started after being dropped by Sony/BMG.  The album went on to peak at #152 on the UK Albums Chart.

    In the press release, Sandi talks a bit about how the song came to be and the inspiration behind it;

    “After my friend Tal (Tal Bergman, drummer/percussionist) and I had recorded the vast majority of the song I sat back in the producers chair and realised that this song could really reach out and touch people. Sometimes you don’t write a song, the song writes itself. This song came from the pit of my stomach and the deepest depths of my soul. I feel so desperately sad at the news I watch every day that I must stand up and say something and I don’t give a fuck if I get stick for it. Someone needs to stand up and tell it like it is for the millions of people who do not have the priceless gift of freedom of speech.”
