Carly Rae Jepsen Announces Tour

Carly Rae Jepsen Announces Headlining Tour Dates; Tickets On-Sale Today

    Carly Rae Jepsen Announces Tour

You guys, tickets for Carly Rae Jepsen‘s ‘Gimmie Love’ Tour go on sale at 4:00 PM (EST) and I’m so excited. I’ve had her new album E•MO•TION (Schoolboy Records/Interscope) on repeat since it’s release at the end of June. The album is filled-to-the-brim with sparkly pop gold—from the low key glitter-bomb “Run Away With Me” to nostalgia-drenched future slow-dance staple “All That” to the Sia co-penned/Greg Kurstin-produced pop-stomper (and my favorite track) “Boy Problems“—E•MO•TION is PURE POP PERFECTION.

While I’m notoriously bad at remembering song lyrics, I’m well on my way to being able to sing my way through this album’s entirety (I don’t know if this is something I should be proud of or not), so seeing her do it live is an absolute necessity. While tickets ACTUALLY went on sale Wednesday (an exclusive pre-sale through the Fahlo app) they are on-sale to the general public today, October 2nd, starting at 4:00 PM. While she;’s only playing 4 shows on the East Coast for now, we can expect more dates to be announced soon. Check out when and where Carly is playing below and visit her website to buy tickets. For those of you in NYC, see you at Irving Plaza!

    • November 9 – The Fillmore – Silver Spring, MD
    • November 10 – Paradise Rock Club – Boston, MA
    • November 11 – Irving Plaza – New York, NY
    • November 13 – The Trocadero Theatre – Philadelphia, PA

The #Justice4Jepsen campaign continues. Guys, it’s been just over 3 months since Carly Rae Jepsen (or “Jeppo” as she’s affectionately known by Popjustice) and it’s still one of the best of the summer—no scratch that—of the year. That’s calling E•MO•TION one of the best albums of 2015. And guys, it really is! From the very first track, ALL THE WAY to the fifteenth (assuming you got the Deluxe edition). It’s lush, synth-infused 80s-inspired soundscape is an absolute dream to listen to. Featuring stunning production from a host of talented folk, including Dev Hynes (Sky Ferreira, Solange), Ariel Rechtshaid (Charli XCX, Brandon Flowers), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson), Rostam Batmanglij (from Vampire Weekend), Shellback (P!nk, Britney Spears) plus songwriting assistance from Sia, Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk and a host of others—E•MO•TION is smart, sophisticated synthpop at its best.

Thank GOD chart performance isn’t always indicative of an album’s quality, because, while it’s not doing TERRIBLY E•MO•TION is hardly what I’d call a hit. The album peaked on the Billboard 200 at No. 16 which is 10 spots down from where KISSCarly’s sophomore album, landed on the same chart back in 2012. The album fared worse in the UK, peaking at No. 21 on the Official Albums Chart (KISS debuted at No. 9). In her native Canada, the album did better, peaking at No. 8 on the album charts, STILL 3 spots lower than KISS. Again, not a failure by any stretch, but still disappointing, especially given all the critical praise! Rolling Stone called E•MO•TION a “pop masterclass” while New York Magazine praised it as “rapturous,” “hook-filled,” and “a joyful freedom from the pop game’s stuffy rules.”

So with all this praise being heaped on E•MO•TION the fact that people aren’t going GANGBUSTERS for it is both infuriating and frustrating. #Justice4Jepsen indeed! The only consolation for me is the fact that she’s taking this show on the road and doing it live. While Carly really has nothing to prove, I look forward to watching her take the stage and prove WRONG all those people that STILL cast her as a one-hit-wonder. Check out this fantastic interview with Carly over on Baeble, and listen to her talk about the inspiration behind the album. This girl is no one-hit-wonder. She’s a talented, wise-beyond-her-years, singer and songwriter and E•MO•TION is worth your time.

E•MO•TION is out now (iTunes/Spotify) and on vinyl October 23rd (Amazon).
