Delta Goodrem Plots UK Comeback; New Single ‘Wings’ Impacts October 30th

Delta Goodrem will release her new single, "Wings" in the UK October 30th.

Australian pop-singer Delta Goodrem is BACK folks. Well, if you live in the UK anyway. If you live in the 30 year-old’s homeland of Australia, she’s always been a fixture in the pop charts and more recently on TV as one of the coaches on The Voice Australia. Her latest single, “Wings” is an infectious anthemic up-tempo pop banger (iTunes | Google PlaySpotify) set to impact UK radio starting October 30th. Following “Wings‘” release in Australia, it soared straight up the ARIA chart, peaking at No. 1, her ninth No. 1 since she hit the top spot with “Born To Try” back in 2002. Check out the video for “Wings” below, directed and produced by Anthony Rose (U.S. fans – try this link).

Delta wrote the song with Australian songwriting and production outfit, DNA (The Veronicas, The Saturdays, Jessica Mauboy) and serves as the lead single from her forthcoming fifth studio album. While I’ve always liked her voice, I’m particularly drawn to a Delta Goodrem dance pop banger, and “Wings” is just about as dance-poppy as they come. Watching the video, which was shot in Sydney, we see a STUNNING Goodrem dressed in a flowing purple gown, made extra flowy thanks to a wind machine and some visual effects (including a GODDESS transformation, with the addition of some big white angel wings) Goodrem can also be seen energetically banging a drum and playing the piano. Everything about this track reads “empowerment” with Delta looking and sounding better than ever. According to Delta, “The song is a true reflection of where I am in life & my career,” certainly a promising sign of things to come.

Delta Goodrem is BACK with the release of her new single, "Wings" set to impact radio October 30th.

Back in the early 2000s, when my love of UK pop was barely just a burning ember, Delta Goodrem caught my attention, thanks to her debut album featuring a smattering of sparkly mid-tempos produced by Gary Barlow, and Eliot Kennedy, including “Lost Without You,” “Innocent Eyes,” “Not Me, Not I” and the previously aforementioned “Born To Try.” While this album was lacking in terms of up-tempo club smashes (typically what I gravitate towards today) there was something about Goodrem’s voice and persona that captivated me. After that, I followed the ups and downs of her career and personal life. When she released her debut U.S. album in 2008 (‘Delta‘) I was beyond excited. Unfortunately her U.S. career never quite took off (‘Delta’ peaked at No. 116 on the Billboard 200) and she disappeared down under, and continued to release hit records at home, including the infinitely catchy “Sitting On Top of the World” and “Dancing With A Broken Heart (both in 2012).

Now with news of Delta’s first UK single release in years, I’m hopeful that she’s on the verge of re-launching her career as an international pop star. Her last charting album in Great Britain was her 2004 sophomore release, Mistaken Identity, which peaked at No. 25 on the UK Albums chart.  2008’s Delta was released in the UK, it failed to chart while her 2012 album, Child Of The Universe wasn’t released in the UK. Here’s hoping this new era of Delta Goodrem is a long-lasting, career re-igniting one because Delta Goodrem deserves to be an international star.
