Giveaway: Enter To Win the ‘White Light’ EP from British Synthpop Sensation Shura

I'm giving away a few copies of Shura's new EP, White Light, featuring "2Shy," "Indecision," and more!

28 year-old Brit singer/songwriter/producer Shura (AKA Aleksandra Denton)  only just released her debut U.S. EP, White Light (Interscope) but she’s been on my radar for months now, ever since she released the 80s-infused synth stunner “2Shy” back in March. Come to find out, “2Shy” was ACTUALLY her FOURTH release! Say WHAT!?

That’s right, her first official single, “Touch” (co-produced by Joel Pott of Athlete) was released in early 2014 at which point it started blowing up amongst bloggers-in-the-know (present company NOT included apparently). Additional singles followed, including crowd favorite (I’ve now seen her twice live) “Indecision” as did a remix of Jessie Ware‘s second Tough Love single, “Say You Love Me.” Check out the video for “Indecision” below.

Currently signed to Polydor Records in the UK and Interscope in the States, Shura‘s debut album is expected out early 2016. As I mentioned before, I’ve had the extreme pleasure of seeing her live now twice in New York—first in Brooklyn earlier this year and most recently at Mercury Lounge on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. While on-stage, Shura appears…erm…2Shy (see what I did there?) she’s a BEAST at what she does, alternating between the drum machine, guitar and keyboard. Quietly confident when in front of the mic and with her instruments, the young singer completely loses herself in her performance, letting out the occasional rock & roll scream when the mood strikes. Sure, there was some quiet banter with the audience, including some exchanged laugher about the weather (it was a balmy 90 degrees earlier that day), but for the most part Shura concentrated on the music, which is infectious btw. Expertly constructed, synth-ladden pop tunes DRIPPING with 80s nostalgia.

Shura‘s 6-track White Light EP was released July 17th here in the States features 3 original songs including “Indecision,” “2Shy” and this brilliant synth-disco cut (which also happens to be the EP’s title track) “White Light.” In addition, the EP includes 3 remixes, one remix for each track. While she just wrapped up a 3-date U.S. club tour, this is the second time she’s been over here so chances are high that she’ll be back. Catch her if you can. Check out the video for “White Light” below.
