Last time I wrote about British synthpop trio, Years & Years, they had recently released the video for current UK single “KING,” out March 1st (iTunes) and were about to make their U.S. debut at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City. Of course, the MASSIVE WINTER STORM (that wasn’t), NEMO derailed the band’s scheduled appearance. While their second NYC performance in Brooklyn went on without a hitch the following night−a lot of good that did me. Sure, I got my refund but I was really hoping to see the band perform live! There’s something really special about seeing a band you think is going to be MAJOR make their U.S. debut. Oh well. C’est la vie.
Well, there’s good news for New York Years & Years fans. This week the band announced a rescheduled date for their PopGun Presents performance at Le Poisson Rouge (March 31st), along with a few other dates (tickets). WOOOHOO!
In addition to this new NYC date, the band will be playing a series of shows in America this March, including an appearance at this years’ SXSW in Austin, TX—ALL in support of the Y & Y self-titled EP which was released February 3rd (Polydor / Interscope). The four track EP features the current U.S. single, “Desire” as well as current UK single and Music Is My King Size Bed-favorite, “KING.” “Desire,” produced by Mark Ralph and Two Inch Punch and written by Years & Years (AKA Olly Alexander, Mikey Goldsworthy, Emre Turkmen) along with Kid Harpoon was originally released in the UK back in November of 2014 when it peaked at No. 22 on the UK Singles Chart. “King” will be released in the UK March 1st and features remixes from The Magician and TCTS. Check out the video for “Desire” and “King” BELOW.
