Hot Video Alert: P!nk – Fuckin’ Perfect

How can you NOT LOVE P!nk? “Fuckin’ Perfect” is single #2 off of P!nk‘s new compilation, Greatest Hits…So Far!!! Co-written and produced by hit-makers Max Martin (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry) and Shellback (Britney Spears, Usher, Adam Lambert) “Fuckin’ Perfect” is a gritty, heartfelt pop ballad like only P!nk can do justice.

While I thought that the video was going to be another re-hashing of her 2002 hit “Family PortraitBOY was I wrong. While “Family Portrait” dealt with the very real issue of growing up in broken homes, “Fuckin’ Perfect” (or “Perfect” as the edited version is known) tackles even darker issues including cutting and suicide. According to P!nk through her official website:

“Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us. (the problem being; alienation and depression. the symptoms; cutting and suicide). I personally don’t know a single person who doesn’t know at least two of these victims personally.”

Deep, deep stuff from P!nk. I love how EVERY single P!nk single tells some kind of a story. Whether through the songwriting, the visuals, the voice itself – P!nk’s latest single provides for quite a sensory roller coaster ride. When you get to the end you’re left a little bit rattled (or at least I was anyway). Powerful.

The Dave Meyers-directed video features actress Tina Majorino (Big Love, Napoleon Dynamite) as the grown up protagonist. The video chronicles this sad, lonely girl’s life as she grows up and makes some bad choices. P!nk’s video tells such a beautiful story, made believable in part because of Tina Majorino’s exquisite performance. It’s funny, I first remembered seeing Majorino in the family film about the girl and her seal, Andre. While I knew she had grown up, this was the first I’d seen of her in a while. In any case, it’s such a beautiful little video.

Fuckin’ Perfect,” the follow up to P!nk‘s last #1 hit, “Raise Your Glass,” was released digitally in the States on December 14th (due for release in the UK on February 20th). To date the song has peaked highest in Australia, hitting the #10 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart. In the U.S. the song has peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #25 on the Billboard U.S. Pop Songs chart.  Over in the UK where the song hasn’t even official been released “FP” managed to peak at #71 on the UK singles chart.  “Fuckin’ Perfect” went out for U.S. radio play just after the New Year, on January 4th.  Download the single on iTunes HERE and pick up you copy of Greatest Hits…So Far!!!
