Hot Video Alert: Rhodes Covers ‘Ship To Wreck’ by Florence and The Machine Live

British singer/songwriter RHODES puts his beautiful spin on Florence and The Machine's "Ship To Wreck," LIVE from BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge.

Holy MOTHER. You need to check out this cover of Florence and The Machine‘s “Ship To Wreck,” performed FLAWLESSLY by young British singer/songwriter RHODES. Admittedly, I’ve been sitting on RHODES for a while—just passively listening to every song he’s released. Now, it’s not that I don’t like him (his falsetto is guaranteed to give you CHILLS) it’s just that nothing I’ve heard has really blown me away. It’s all been a bit too sleepy for me, and that’s not what I’m feeling at the moment. But this cover of “Ship To Wreck,” performed during a recent stop over in BBC Radio 1‘s Live Lounge studio—WOW.  Check it out below and hear for yourself.

While the tempo on RHODES‘ cover is considerably slower than the original, he sticks with the melody (for the most part) and thank GOD for that because “Ship To Wreck” is a CLEAR standout on Florence and The Machine‘s recent album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. He finds other places to put his own unique spin on the song as well, transforming the Florence’s rousing electric guitar-laden rock & roll version into something more fitting of his folksy-yet-soulful style. In RHODES‘ dynamic rendition he seductively coos the song’s verses in his trademark, goosebump-inducing head voice, while powerfully belting out the bigger-than-life chorus. AWE STRUCK. I would love to see him do this live. Perhaps one day.

Rhodes will release his debut album, Wishes on September 18th via Rhodes Music/Ministry of Sound.

Before dazzling audiences at Glastonbury this past year, this talented singer/songwriter born by the name of David Rhodes released two EPs—2013’s Raise Your Love (Hometown Records) and Morning (Rhodes Music) in the Spring of 2014.
