Hot Video Alert: The Saturdays – 30 Days

    The Saturdays 30 Days

On May 13th, UK girl group The Saturdays will release their new single, a catchy, slightly generic dance-pop number called “30 Days.”  The track was written and produced by Steve Mac (One Direction, The Wanted, Kelly Clarkson) & co-written by Autumn Rowe (Alexandra Burke, Cher Lloyd, Leona Lewis).  At this point, we’re not sure what this single is promoting, as it doesn’t appear on the girls’ last album, On Your Radar, released just last November.  This could mean a couple of different things:

    1. First single from an as-yet-unannounced fourth album
    2. Fist single from an as-yet-unannounced EP (a la Headlines)
    3. First single from an as-yet-unannounced ‘On Your Radar‘ re-release
    4. Standalone single
Your guess is as good as mine.

One thing is certain, the girls are in desperate need of a hit and I don’t think “30 Days” is it.  At this point, I’m beginning to think the girl group is a lost cause.  Don’t get me wrong, “30 Days” is a catchy song, unfortunately the same could be said of previous efforts “Notorious,” and “All Fired Up.”  While there’s something to be said for the whole “rinse & repeat” formula in pop music, I have a feeling that’s exactly what’s hurting them here – every damn song sounds the same.
On Your Radar was released November 21st last year, becoming the band’s lowest charting album to date, stalling out at #23 (both Chasing Lights and Wordshaker managed to at least crack the top ten).  The album’s lead single, “Notorious,” debuted at #8 on the UK Singles Chart, followed by “All Fired Up” which did significantly better, entering the chart at #3.  The girls’ final album single, “My Heart Takes Over,” peaked at #15.  Something clearly isn’t working here and hopefully Polydor is taking steps to remedy the situation, otherwise I think it’s time we said goodbye to The Saturdays.
Check out the Taylor Cohen-directed video for “30 Days” below, filmed at Starvin’ Marvin’s Restaurant in London this past February. Get ready to download the single on UK iTunes on May 13th.  The single will be backed by remixes by Ruff LoaderzMax Sanna & Steve Pitron, Bass Ninjas and JRMX.
