I have to say, I’ve been super impressed by Will Young
‘s recent string of music videos. Each one has been more beautiful/interesting/artistic than the next. Will’s latest video for “I Just Want a Lover
” dropped yesterday and once again, just like “Losing Myself
” before it, this video is absolute perfection.
In the gorgeous Dan Sulley-directed clip, a handsome as ever Will Young plays a bored-to-tears grocery store employee with an active imagination. Pushing a train of shopping trolleys (AKA shopping carts for all you Americans) on the top level of a parking garage, a stand alone trolley catches Will’s eye, sitting in the middle of the parking lot. Rather than put it away with the others, Young launches into an elaborate, choreographed dance routine, complete with lots of twirls, air kicks and lots of fancy footwork.
Of course, what video would be complete without a dream sequence? Cut to that same parking garage at night where we see a dapper Mr. Young, dressed to the nines in a blue suit, and his dance partner, the very same trolley from before, only this time decked out in sparkly silver fringe. As the two of them continue their routine, both are illuminated by the headlights of the parked cars that have formed a circle of spotlights around the middle of the parking lot. Quite the visual, indeed.
“I Just Want a Lover,” due June 25th (iTunes UK) is the fourth single taken from Will’s fifth studio album, Echoes. The song was produced by Richard X and co-written by Young, Mima Stilwell and Jim Eliot.

The album’s lead single, “Jealousy” debuted at #5 on the UK Singles chart, becoming Young’s tenth Top 5 single. Follow up single, “Come On” fared less well on the charts, peaking at #83, while third single “Losing Myself” improved slightly, coming in at #72.
