Just because I’m not writing every day doesn’t mean I’m not LISTENING! And just because a song is released weeks ago, doesn’t mean it’s not worth listening to today…so here we go. This is my first ICYMI (“In Case You Missed It“) blog, and the star today? One of my favourite English imports, Laura Welsh. The video for her latest UK single, “Ghosts” was released back in December, ahead of the single’s planned release on January 19th. While the album, Soft Control, was originally supposed to debut the same day as the single, a new release day of March 9th (Outsiders/Polydor) was announced in early January. Sad.
While no reason was given as to WHY the album release was pushed back, one could only assume it’s because Welsh is still working at it (despite review copies of the album having been sent out by the label?). If her social media activity is any indication, Welsh is still tweaking the album, with Instagram photos in the studio and Tweets about trips to Los Angeles. Take your time, do it right. Give it to us when it’s ready, girl.
While we’re waiting for Soft Control‘s release March 9th (not to mention word of some more promo dates here in America, DAMN IT!) I thought I’d revisit the GLORIOUS video for “Ghosts,” a visual collaboration from Shervin Lainez, Gregg Houston and Welsh herself. Scope it out at the bottom of the post!
Speaking of promo dates, Welsh did some interviews during her trip out West, including a stop by the YouTube headquarters in San Francisco (ABOVE). While a date at this year’s SXSW has been announced, I’m optimistic that Welsh will get some East Coast dates in this Spring/Summer as well, especially with her music appearing on U.S. television shows like Pretty Little Liars and on big movie soundtracks like 50 Shades of Grey. Speaking of gigs, Welsh will be playing Electrowerkz (tickets) in London March 12th hot on the heels of her 2 sold out dates at Servants Jazz Quarters.
