It’s All About Foxes Right Now…At Least It Should Be

    Foxes - Glorious Single

Foxes (born Louisa Rose Allen) is a 25 year-old singer/songwriter from Southampton in England. While she’s best known in the U.S. for her featured vocal on Zedd‘s IMMENSELY popular 2013 electro-sparkler, “Clarity,” with the recent release of her debut solo record, Glorious (iTunes), I think that’s all about to change (or at least it should). The video for her latest single (and the album’s title track), “Glorious” is out now. Check it out below.

The gorgeous video, set at an exclusive country club of some kind, features Foxes doing her best to fit in without making waves. Country club patrons stand there like Stepford statues, with their collars pops, cardigans tied ’round their waists, plastic surgery wounds bandaged while Foxes, looking uncomfortable, dances and sings all around them. “Glorious” was written by Allen herself with Jonny Harris (AKA Ghostwriter) who also produced the track, along with Mike Spencer. The song, with it’s BIG SWEEPING pop production, dubstep flourishes, and an effect that sounds like shaken dice, is one of MANY standouts on Foxes‘ debut album.

It’s a shame that the album hasn’t charted here in America yet, following its release at the end of June, although it is currently #27 on the Heatseeker Albums Chart. Released in the UK back in May, Glorious debuted at #5 on the Official Album Charts and features 3 (so far) Top 20 singles, including lead single, “Youth” which became Foxes first #1 on Billboard‘s Hot Dance Club Songs chart. While all of her singles have been re-jiggered by some of the biggest names in dance music, Foxes‘ biggest success here in America has been her collaboration with Zedd on “Clarity,” a song which earned the young talent her first Grammy (for Best Dance Recording). The duo performed the song live here in America, appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the Late Show with David Letterman.

In addition to her sweet voice being heard on the airwaves and in dance clubs all over the world, she has graced the covers of UK’s Fabulous and The New Review, and has been prominently featured in fashion publications such as In Style (UK) Magazine, Flaunt, Elle, Marie Claire and NYLON. Foxes has also apparently been bitten by the acting bug, scheduled to appear in a bit part in an episode of BBC‘s sci-fi hit “Doctor Who.” While she did tour the states earlier this year (bummed that I missed her!) her next round of live dates will be back home in the UK, where she will join Pharrell on his upcoming European tour.

Be sure and download the stunning album, Glorious, on iTunes, featuring stunning production from Future Cut, Ghostwriter, Liam Howe, Jarrad Rogers and more. The album features all of Foxes‘ singles, including “Youth,” “Let Go For Tonight” and “Holding Onto Heaven,” and current single  “Glorious” which has been given a STUNNING remix package with mixes from Zoo Station, Everything Everything, Great Good Fine OK and Mike Mago.  A remix EP will be released in the UK August 10th (iTunes).  Other standouts on the album for me include “White Coats,” “Night Owls Early Birds,” and “Echo.” Glorious is truly one of the underrated (in the U.S.) and best new pop releases of the past few months. GET INTO THIS GIRL AMERICA!
