I’ve pretty much been a bloody mess ever since the day Lily Allen Rose Cooper declared her plans to retire from music.  Crying. Shaking. Hiding in the pantry. I’ve been an absolute wreck.  Then T-Pain released his hit single, “5 O’Clock,” featuring “Who’d Have Known” from Allen’s Cooper’s 2009 sophomore album, It’s Not Me, It’s You and the world was a brighter place.  Despite the fact that Allen Cooper didn’t appear in the video, and the fact that the sample wasn’t anything new, her voice was all I needed to hear, apparently. Oh, I suppose I should address the white elephant in this post, before we get too much farther. IT’S F**KING LILY ROSE COOPER NOW BITCHES!

Sorry. That wasn’t directed at any of you, obviously. I was just being cute and sassy, per usual.  In all seriousness though, Lily Allen is working on new music but she would prefer if you referred to her by her married name now.  Despite having previously declared herself retired, Allen…err…Cooper confirmed via a snarky Twitter convo with Popjustice editor Peter Robinson that she was “currently in the f**king studio with Greg Kurstin,” AKA the man behind her last flawless album and bits of her debut. This of course is BRILLIANT news.
While having this confirmation from the artist herself was reassuring, NOW it’s officially official.  Last Thursday, a press release went out under the headline: “Lily Allen Changes Her Professional Name To ‘Lily Rose Cooper’,” with a subheader that read, “Singer heads back into the studio.”  According to the PR, Cooper is heading into the studio to “continue recording new songs she has written over the past few months” and “to work on even newer material.”
While Cooper claims to have never uttered the word “retire,” her future in pop music was up in the air, that much is true.  Lucky for us, now that she’s married, a mum and record label executive (Cooper launched her own label, In The Name Of, a subsidiary of Sony Music back in January 2011) and entrepreneur (Lucy In Disguise) it looks like Lily Rose Cooper is feeling inspired once again.  While there’s no word yet as to when we can expect to hear new solo music, Cooper has been announced as a featured guest on P!nk‘s forthcoming The Truth About Love album, out in September, so we don’t have THAT long to wait.  The important thing is knowing Cooper is working on new material.  Patience is a virtue, so I’ve been told so I guess…we just have to wait.
