Color-me-obsessed with Leo Kalyan. While his name has always been floating around in my pop-music-periphery, it wasn’t until I heard his latest, “Get Your Love,” that I became utterly smitten. Leo premiered the song exclusively on Idolator earlier this week, but now we can all stream it for ourselves…so go do that now. I’ll wait.
“Get Your Love” is pure synthful delight from beginning to end. The track starts out tentatively with some slow chords, backed by a chorus of crickets before launching into the glittery, toe-tapping first verse. While very much synthpop at heart, an R&B influence is very much evident here. Kalyan’s smooth-as-silk vocals sound crystal clear as he sings about a carefree early summer night. “Anybody wanna tell me how to get your love-love-love,” he sings in the chorus, sounding vaguely reminiscent of the chorus in Redbone‘s 1974 hit “Come And Get Your Love.” Kalyan is the kind of singer that doesn’t need to over-sing, which I appreciate. In electronic music, oftentimes you hear the singer attempting to compete with the production. Here, while the beats are ample, really propelling the song forward, Kalyan’s warm vocals play nicely with the production. This is the perfect song to end your summer.
“Get Your Love” will be released October 23rd (Believe Records). While you’re waiting for the new tunes, be sure and check out the debut EP from Leo Kalyan, Silver Linings (iTunes | Spotify) featuring the stunning lead single, “Fingertips.“
