Parson James may only have a handful of songs out there on the internet, but people are already falling head-over-heels for this guy, thanks in part to his TREMENDOUS voice and a knack for hitting the listener right in the heart with deeply personal and emotional lyrics. With his latest release, James does it again. Last week the young talent premiered “Stole The Show” – The Original on The FADER. On this previously unreleased version of the hit tune originally put out by Norwegian producer/DJ KYGO, James’ powerful voice is left more exposed and vulnerable than ever before. Gone are the ravey dance beats, replaced by piano and electric guitar, layered over the singer’s own background vocals. Simply stunning. Listen below.
KYGO‘s version of “Stole The Show” has already amassed 200+ million streams worldwide on Spotify, sold nearly 2 million copies in addition to being certified Double Platinum in Sweden and Norway, Platinum in Denmark and Gold in Finland. While some might see being “the voice” on a massively popular dance track as a curse, Parson James is just thankful that it’s out there for people to hear, telling The Fader “this is hands down one of my favorite records that I’ve ever written, and at the time that this remix idea was presented to me it all just fell into place. I absolutely loved what KYGO was doing, and when I heard his version of the song I knew it would be an incredible way to present it in a different light.“
Hey—we all see what’s happened to Sam Smith post “Latch” so I think that’s the right attitude. Besides, James isn’t slacking about. He’s hard on work on his debut album, the first sampling of which−”Sinner Like You” is out now. Stay tuned more news on Parson’s debut album as well as some expected tour dates later this year. In the meantime, “Stole The Show” is available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify and VEVO or download it on iTunes.
