LOLO: A Reintroduction

    LOLO

Last time I wrote about up & coming singer/songwriter LOLO was…GASP July of last year? It’s been almost a year? That’s crazy to me. Wow. Well PERFECT timing because LOLO has a new song out (“Hit And Run” – see BELOW!), she’s on tour with Fall Out Boy, Paramore and the New Politics, and OH…she signed to a new label! Busy little LOLO.

Last month, Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz announced the re-launch of his Decaydance Records (now DCD2 Records), home to a roster of well known talent such as Panic! at the Disco, Cobra Starship, Travie McCoy and (DUH!) Fall Out Boy. Decaydance was originally launched back in 2005 with Panic! At The Disco‘s breakout A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, and followed with hit records by Gym Class Heroes and Cobra Starship.  About the re-launch, Wentz tells Rolling Stone:

We’ve always tried to do what Jay Z did with Roc-A-Fella, so maybe this is our RocNation. It’s going to be home to some of the past Decaydance artists who are still making music, plus a couple of new artists that represent the next logical step forward.

The new artists Wentz is referring to…Danish rockers New Politics and our girl LOLO. As far as DCD2’s release plans, first up we have new music from LOLO, who Wentz says has “exciting songs” as well as an exciting announcement from Cobra Starship coming soon. Right now, as we speak, LOLO is partaking in Fall Out Boy‘s cross-country US tour, opening for her boss’ band and Paramore alongside new label mates the New Politics, which is pretty MAJOR for an artist not yet very well-known here in America.

    LOLO

Last time we spoke about LOLO, it was surrounding her feature on Panic! At The Disco‘s first single (“Miss Jackson“) off their fourth album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die. Well, that was in July. The Panic! album came out in October…and there have been 3 singles released from that album since, with the last (“Nicotine“) coming out in May. WHOOSH! Let’s catch up!

LOLO released buzz single “Weapon For Saturday” in June of 2013, followed by EQUALLY impressive buzz single, “Heard It From A Friend.” After that LOLO put out ANOTHER buzzy BUZZ track, “Year Round Summer Of Love” in August. In early November, LOLO dropped a Coney Island-shot video for “Year Round Summer Of Love” (SEE BELOW) and a bit later in the month, a video for “Heard It From A Friend.” BREATHE In January, LOLO released a hip-hop remix for a new song called “Gangster” featuring UK rapper Giggs. Finally…at the end of January, LOLO released a STUNNING New York City-set video for the rap-less version of “Gangster. (SEE BELOW)

For me, it’s always been about LOLO’s voice.  While many fans know her from Broadway (Spring Awakening) I first learned about Lauren Pritchard‘s singer/songwriter music which she was releasing in the UK on Island Records. I was instantly attracted to her signature smokey-dipped in molasses-like tone and introspective lyrics.  Now, with a new label home on DCD2 here in America and new music on the way, it FINALLY looks like we’ll be getting that album from LOLO sooner rather than later. I’ve been craving more LOLO since falling for her alter ego’s first album, Wasted In Jackson. At this very moment, LOLO has four new songs, either out or on the horizon.  These include: “Hit And Run” (SEE ABOVE), a featured spot on singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson‘s new single “Headphones,” a featured vocal on UK electronic producer/DJ/remixer Redlight‘s new single, “Cure Me” (SEE BELOW) PLUS a featured spot on Norwegian electro outfit, Lemaitre‘s new EP, Singularity out July 22nd (via Astralwerks).  Now is the time to jump onboard the LOLO train, people.  Hold on tight.
