Everybody Wants a Taste…of Nick Jonas’ New Album (Album Giveaway)

    Nick Jonas Giveaway

Nick Jonas dropped his self-titled album on November 10th, and it’s quite a sexy affair. After months of teasing us, both with new tunes and his sexy abs, the 22-year old Jonas’ Island Records debut album is FINALLY here,  ushering in a new era of Jonas mania. To celebrate it’s release, I’m giving away 2 copies. Read below for GIVEAWAY details! You have until November 19th to enter!

With a decidedly more SOULFUL sound this time around, I was pleasantly surprised with, just how seamlessly Jonas transitioned into his new genre. I was also pleasantly surprised by JUST how quickly Jonas eased into his new-found status as a sex symbol (for both gays & straights alike).  According to an interview in TIME, Jonas explains his new sound and some of the influences behind making this new record:

“I came in really wanting to make a record that was different from anything I’d done in the past, but that was true to my influences: Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bee Gees. And then, more recently, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean. That whole vibe of alternative R&B/pop. It just fell into a really natural place really early.”

The 11-track album features production from Jason Evigan (Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato) and John Feldman (5 Seconds Of Summer, Panic! At The Disco, Good Charlotte) and songwriting assistance from Sam Martin (currently featuring on the new David Guetta track, “Dangerous“), Mike Posner, Erik Hassle, Taio Cruz, Demi Lovato, among others. Lovato also contributes vocals on an album track (“Avalanche“), as does buzzy rapper/singer Angel Haze (“Numb“)—even Mike Posner himself appears on one of the Deluxe album’s bonus cuts (“Closer“) which he co-penned.

I recently had the…erm…AURAL PLEASURE of seeing Nick Jonas play an intimate stage in Williamsburg, Brooklyn the other night. While the audience was a bit younger and more female than I was expecting (ESPECIALLY given Jonas’ recent push into the gay market), he delivered a strong and confident performance. My favorite numbers were those off his new album, the ones he performed with his full band. The soul in Jonas’ voice dazzled, especially on those high notes. While he was there to promote his new record, NJ fully realized that a majority of his audience was 16 year-old girls, breaking out the guitar for a Jonas Brothers/Nick Jonas & The Administration medley, before ultimately returning to the SOUL of the matter and performing some covers, including Ginuwine‘s “Pony” (a song I’ve heard more artists cover this past year than I’d care to hear!) and Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me.” I can’t help but think that these covers were for the mothers in the audience (and there were a lot of mothers drooling…errr…chaperoning)—”Pony” in particular, a song that came out in ’96 before a lot of these girls were even born…but anyway, this old queen digresses. One of the highlights for me was when Jonas brought out R&B singer/songwriter Tinashe, closing out the show with a live performance of the recently released “JealousRemix (iTunes) featuring the GORGEOUS, young burgeoning R&B star.

Nick Jonas‘ new album features the VERY GOOD singles, “Chains” (written by Evigan, Ammar Malik and Daniel Parker), “Jealous” (produced by Sir Nolan) and NEW single and NEW favorite, “Teacher” (check out the lyric video BELOW). In addition to this new Tinashe remix, “Jealous” (No. 27 on Billboard Hot 100 at last count) has been remixed for the clubs (more “pandering” to the gays, obviously) by the likes of The Rooftop Boys, Bent Collective and more. What’s more, Jonas also recorded a live version of the song with a gospel choir! Now, as soon as I heard “Chains” I was HOPING for an ENTIRE album of Nick Jonas soul and that’s exactly what we got. While I can respect an artist’s choice to jump genres with each subsequent album, I wouldn’t mind if the youngest of the (performing) JoBros stuck to soul/pop for another couple of albums. Vocally speaking, he’s found his wheelhouse.
