LEISURE is a mysterious five-piece band from New Zealand that I’m just getting into in a BIG WAY and with only 2 songs out presently, now is probably the best time to get into these guys. On both tracks, “Got It Bad” (iTunes / Spotify) and “Hot Love,” (iTunes / Spotify) the band nails that sexy, sunshine-infused retro soul-funk vibe, complete with hypnotic, driving basslines, toe-tapping drum beats and smooth-as-silk falsetto. LEISURE is totally giving me Tame Impala (their recent album), Broken Bells, MGMT vibes. After giving the world such tremendous acts as Lorde and Broods, I’m thinking New Zealand might be yet another hotbed of smart, beautiful, modern pop music. Listen to “Got It Bad” and “Hot Love” below.
With this promising new band ALREADY getting good buzz, thanks to features in Pigeons and Planes, Hilly Dilly, Indie Shuffle (to name a few), a small North American tour totally makes sense. LEISURE will be making their Stateside debut October 19th in Los Angeles at Bardot, followed by a show at the Bootleg Bar on October 20th. They then head over to Vancouver for a one-off show at the Biltmore Cabaret on October 21st, before heading east for their one-and-only east coast gig October 23rd at Rough Trade in Brooklyn. For ticket information, check out the band’s Facebook page. Excited to hear more from these guys!
