[Review] Marcus Collins – Mercy

    Marcus Collins Mercy

X-Factor Series 8 runner-up Marcus Collins is gearing up for the release of his second single, “Mercy,” on June 3rd via RCA Records.  Taken from his self titled debut album, Collins co-wrote this soulful stunner with Lee McCutcheon (Westlife, Emma Bunton) and Lisa Greene (Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue).  The song serves as the follow up to Collins’ top ten debut single, “Seven Nation Army,” originally performed by The White Stripes.

Mercy” is high energy soul music with attitude for days.  Collins delivers a flawless vocal from the very first note, all the way till the end of the song. Filled with both sass and class, THIS is exactly the kind of music Collins was born to sing.  The song brings me back to Collins’ X-Factor audition when he sang his own sass-filled rendition of Stevie Wonder‘s classic “Signed Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.”  Collins impressed all of the judges with his energetic performance and impressive vocal abilities.  The 23 year old from Liverpool dazzled the judges and audiences week after week with original performances of big songs like “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Superstition,” “Another One Bites The Dust” and “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Highter and Higher.”  Collins vocal style always sat somewhere in between pop, rock and soul and “Mercy” is the perfect vehicle for him.

Listen to “MercyBELOW and download it on June 3rd (iTunes UK).
