Hot Video Alert: Seinabo Sey – Pistols At Dawn

To hear and see Seinabo Sey perform live is truly a wonder, and I truly feel blessed to have caught her debut U.S. live performance at CMJ this year. While sets by buzzy pop up & comers Zella Day, Verite and Cathedrals were nice—the reality of the situation is, I bought tickets to see Seinabo Sey. And let me tell you…she did NOT disappoint. While the 24 year-old Swede is currently in the UK promoting her debut EP, For Madeleine (November 17th | UK iTunes), she was here in the States a few weeks ago playing showcases on both coasts, generating even more buzz. Check out the EPIC video released for NEW single, “Pistols At Dawn,” filmed in a forest in Sweden and directed by Christian Larson. Out-of-this-WORLD GORGEOUS.

The EP, For Madeleine (out in America now | iTunes) features 4-tracks, including a re-worked version of “Hard Time,” (a song currently being used to promote Katherine Heigl‘s upcoming NBC political drama, State Of Affairs) and of course, “Pistols At Dawn.” Speaking of “Pistols At Dawn,” check out this nice little remix from Culture Shock. I am loving her label’s choice of remixers, all of them choosing to keep the DARK, OMINOUS quality in her vocals, mimic that darkness with equally moody production. Favorites include the S.P.Y. and Fryars remixes of “Hard Time” and of course the REMIX that became her biggest hit at home in Sweden, Kygo‘s refix of “Younger.” She also turned out a NICE cover of the Clean Bandit / Jess Glynne collaboration, “Rather Be.”

While Seinabo Sey‘s set was ENTIRELY too short at CMJ, to be there in her presence was enough of a treat, and I wasn’t alone in that sentiment. While the ENTIRE night of performances was delayed due to technical difficulties at the venue, pushing her set back an hour, the crowd waited it out for Seinabo Sey, barely thinning at all in the 30-40 minutes between acts. By the time Sey’s band stepped onto the stage, the audience was restless. Clearly a bit nervous in the beginning, her confidence grew with each song. Saving breakout international hit, “Younger” for last, Seinabo Sey finished strong. Taking a moment after her bow, Sey appeared grateful. If you’re going to make your U.S. debut anywhere New York City is the place to do it. Seeing the crowd disperse after Sey’s set told me that I wasn’t the only one there JUST TO SEE HER.

Keep your eye on this one, world. Seinabo Sey is well on her way to becoming a household name.
