Until The Ribbon Breaks Remix ‘King’ by Years & Years; North American Tour Kicks Off Tonight in Denver

Until The Ribbon Breaks kick off their latest North American tour in Denver tonight, playing at Larimer Lounge. The band will zig zag around the country before concluding things in Philadelphia on September 18th.

Those genre-bending boys of Until The Ribbon Breaks are BACK, kicking off their latest North American headlining tour tonight in Denver at the Larimer Lounge. The 11-date tour sees the band (AKA Pete Lawrie Winfield, Elliot Wall and James Gordon) hit big cities including Chicago, Toronto, New York, Montreal, Washington DC and Philadelphia, as well as some lesser-played (but equally worthy) locales such as Columbus, Pittsburgh, Albany and Providence. The boys are touring in support of their MASTERPIECE of a debut album, A Lesson Unlearnt (Kobalt Label Services), which dropped back in January and is available everywhere (iTunes | Spotify | Amazon).

In addition to being known for singing/writing/producing their own music fusing electronic, soul, pop and hip-hop in unique and completely innovative ways, Until The Ribbon Breaks love to break down and twist up songs by other artists they happen to be into at the moment—calling it a “re-imagination.” The latest track the trio has tackled, “King” by British synthpop trio Years & Years. Check out the magical results below and download it on iTunes.

What I love about Until The Ribbon Breaks is the full sensory experience they deliver each and every time they put on a show, put out a remix or put out their own music. Sure, every band has stage lighting, maybe a backdrop with their name on it, music videos (if they have a budget to do so) but UTRB go all out. Rather than just pop one of their “re-imaginations” on SoundCloud, the boys create a unique visual that complements the music perfectly. Now, when I say “the boys,” I’m talking about Pete when it comes to the band’s flare for an intense visual spectacle. In addition to being UTRB‘s lead vocalist, chief lyrics he’s also a former film student and passionate movie buff. This time, Pete was inspired by actor (and MEME magnet) Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut, ‘Lost River.’ Talking about the inspiration for this particular re-imagination, Pete explains “beneath the undeniable pop charm of the original, there is something darker to be pulled from a lyric like, ‘I was a king under your control.’” It was this darker element which Pete found in ‘Lost River’—specifically “possession, obsession and control. Lovely stuff!” Lovely indeed. Be sure and check YouTube/SoundCloud for some other Until The Ribbon Breaksre-imaginations” including a great one of Sam Smith‘s “Nirvana” and Lorde‘s “Royals.”

By this point, you know I’m ride or die for my boys, Until The Ribbon Breaks—so I’m going to spare you any sappy sentiments. Pretty sure, since this is the third or fourth time seeing them, that THIS will be their last tour in support of current album. As sad as I am to probably not see them for a while I am excited to hear what they come back with on their next record. In the meantime, I can relish in the knowledge that they are gaining momentum here in America (FINALLY), with current single “A Taste Of Silver” being added to Sirius/XM‘s Alt Nation and appearing under Apple Music‘s list of ‘Hot Tracks‘ (as of September 3rd). If you’re in New York City, I’ll see you September 16th at Webster Hall! For a list of tour dates see below or check out the official site.

Be sure and check out British trio, Until The Ribbon Breaks when they hit the road, starting tonight in Denver, and concluding in Philly on September 18th.
